Dungeons & Dragons

Some time ago I stumbled over the Dungeons & Dragons subreddit at reddit.com/r/dnd which fired up my imagination. For the uninitiated, Dungeons and Dragons is a pen and paper role playing game published by the American company Wizards of the Coast (the same company the makes Magic: the Gathering card game).

The last time I played D&D was over 10 years ago (or any other pen and paper RPG for that matter), which means I haven’t played since before high-school (for the initiated we played 3rd edition and 3.5). It just kind of stopped as I started on high-school, as the friends I was playing with went to different schools than me and eventually I forgot all about it. I do however, have a soft spot for RPG’s / fantasy in general, mainly the Warhammer universe.

Back to D&D. As I started browsing the subreddit, all the memories came flooding back. All the adventures, stories and wacky stuff we did (like the classic our-friends-have-been-jailed-lets-free-them-oh-shit-we-burned-the-city-down-by-mistake). I have often talked with a good friend of mine about how fun it could be to start up again, however we have never done anything about it. So I did the only reasonable thing to do and went all in. I bought the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide and Monsters Manual (Pro tip: Buy the books at Saxo.com. They got a so called Plus membership for 50 kr. pr. month, first month is free, which saves you about 40-50% compared to normal retail prices).

Even though my memory seems a bit hazy on the actual mechanics, the rules so far seem pretty streamlined and a lot less cumbersome compared to 3rd edition. Which is a very good thing in my opinion! I plan to be a Dungeon Master (DM), get some of my friends hooked and hopefully get a campaign going.
I’ve got some ideas for adventures already, which I’m going to expand on in the coming days.

When we get started on playing, I have thought about making a journal-thingy, detailing the adventures our characters venture out on. Mostly so we can keep track of the story ourselves, but also so that other people can read about it and hopefully be inspired themselves.
