Corona Virus Day 13: Summer’s over

The Olympic Games have been postponed for the first time since World War 2 due to Corona virus. With the Olympics being cancelled, it is also most likely other events will be cancelled too. While I’m not an avid sports freak that is glued to the TV every weekend watching every single game, I still have an interest in sports in general. I had planned on watching a great deal of the Olympics. But alas. It is not going to be this year.

Le Mans have already been postponed to September. I’ve always wanted to go down and see it – even had some early talks about it this year with my uncle. Lucky we didn’t follow through on it and bought tickets. Guess I’ll just stay up for 24 hours and watch it like usual.
I even received news today that Classic Race Aarhus is also being cancelled and moved to next year. Had even bought tickets and all for that one and was going with two friends of mine. Bummer.

Tour de France will most likely also be cancelled. The Tour have been part of my summer life for as long as I can remember. Have always watched it in some degree, but as I got older I developed more interest in it. Fascinating sport, though not without its share of problems.

UEFA Euro is also postponed for a year, but I’m not crying about that one. Soccer is one of the most boring sports in existence if you ask me. Too few goals. Give me some handball instead. Way more action, +40 goals every match and the players don’t cry if they get tackled.

If things continue the way they are, it will most likely mean the most interesting sports to watch this summer, will be E-sport. Not that I’m complaining about watching some CS:GO or Dota 2. But some variation would be nice. Even though I’m an avid gamer, it is still hard to beat real sports when it comes to excitement, intensity, talent and creativity.

Here’s to hoping the damn Corona virus blows over soon, but I’m not betting on it. It seems more and more like we’re in it for the long haul.

This is part of a series of posts I’ve written about the Corona virus and how it have impacted our society. Equal parts news, observations and thoughts. See the rest of the posts here.
