Corona Virus Day 14: Dollar dollar bill y’all

USA just approved a 2 trillion dollar aid package. That’s literally a fuck-ton of money. It probably won’t be enough. Reality is going to hit them hard when shit goes down.

This also marks two weeks since our prime minister announced she will be shutting most of the country down to halt the spread of Corona virus. Two weeks working from home. Two weeks with social distancing (hah, it’s the same as before, no changes there).

Working from home proves to be somewhat of a challenge. I usually spend a lot of time at work talking with stakeholders, sponsors, developers and all kinds of people. That suddenly became a lot harder as we moved online. You just can’t drop by someones desk and ask them a question. Now you either have to reach out by mail, chat or phone. Of course we got our video conferences and are pretty used to them already as we have an office in Copenhagen. But it is just not the same. You’re lacking something when it all occurs online. You don’t have the same banter or small-talk (though some people might see that as a blessing). You can’t see people’s body language and thereby miss out on all the small cues you would normally catch. Collaboration is harder.
Yeah, I really miss being around people at the office. Morale is still high, though and productivity have never been higher among my colleagues.
My own productivity is also good, but I’m still getting the same things done as before. Can’t really say working from home have raised my productivity noteworthy. Guess it’s the kind of work I do. I don’t have to be in the zone like our developers and can easily switch between tasks and contexts.

As things are going right now, we’re probably going to be working from home at least a month more. Here’s to hoping morale will stay be high a month from now.

This is part of a series of posts I’ve written about the Corona virus and how it have impacted our society. Equal parts news, observations and thoughts. See the rest of the posts here.
