Corona Virus Day 2: Turn it to 11

Second day of the lockdown. First day working from home. Also my first trip to the supermarket since the news broke.

Talk about an empty store. Milk, yest, bread, onions, potatoes, carrots. All gone. They were even out of avocados (damn millennials and their toasts). There was lots of toilet paper though. I don’t get why people are so crazy about buying toilet paper. If you need 150 rolls of toilet paper for 2 weeks you have other problems than Corona virus.

The streets have been strangely empty. Nobody is waiting for the bus and the traffic is noticeably reduced. Living on a busy road, it’s strangely quiet when you don’t hear the traffic you’re used to or see the usual amount of people outside.

Add to that, we had two press meetings today. At the first one, the government advised against unnecessary travel to the rest of the world. Makes sense, as you don’t want to spread the virus even further or bring more cases back.

At the second one, we got told we’re shutting down the borders for a month. Shutting. Down. The. Border. Nobody gets in (Danes excepted), unless they have, 1: a very good reason or 2: are transporting food and medicine. Don’t have either? Goodbye, have a nice trip back home.

Add to that, they also signed in some new laws that greatly extends the power of the government.

As if it couldn’t get crazy enough, it just got even crazier.

This is part of a series of posts I’ve written about the Corona virus and how it have impacted our society. Equal parts news, observations and thoughts. See the rest of the posts here.
