Corona Virus Day 6: As if it couldn’t get crazy enough

My second day working from home this week. Work went as usual, not much to write home about here. The need for talking to people is getting more pronounced. Really missing the daily sparring and how we bounce ideas of each other. Totally missing due to us all being online. Having a video-meeting with +5 people just doesn’t cut it.

I also heard a rumor, that the government will issue a curfew later today on their press meeting. That coincides nicely with the press meeting earlier today from the minister of Environment and Food, where they told there is more than enough food for everybody. Add to that, the queen will speak to the nation after the governments press meeting. I can’t remember the last time that have happened, other than her annual New Years Eve speak. It have not happened within my lifetime and I think we have to go back a lot of years, before we find a similar situation. When the queen goes on national TV to address an issue like this, it is serious business. And that means you better start listening.

In other parts of the world, it is still escalating. A good friend of mine lives on the Philippines, which have just been placed under a state of calamity. That allows the government to tap into more funds battling the Corona virus.
The US is also finally seeming like it is ramping up, though the questions is if it is too little too late. Only time will tell.
The EU is planning on issuing a 30 day travel ban in order to halt the spread. It seems more and more drastic measures are being brought into place day for day, sometimes even hour for hour.

I’ll probably update this again after the press meeting later today.

Update:
Alright, so we didn’t exactly get a curfew, but close enough. No gatherings in public places with more than 10 persons and lots of stores and restaurants shutting down. We’re basically down to only having the supermarkets and pharmacies open now.
The queen also spoke to the nation for the first time outside her annual new year speeches. She basically told us to take this seriously and that our reckless behavior had to stop. I can only hope it had an effect on people, otherwise this is going to drag on for way longer than two weeks.

This is part of a series of posts I’ve written about the Corona virus and how it have impacted our society. Equal parts news, observations and thoughts. See the rest of the posts here.
