End of the line

Last friday my internship at Cembrit Holding ended. For the last 3 months, I have been working for Cembrit in their IT department, as a part of my education. Looking back, it have been 3 good and educational months. I have learned a lot, especially about how a big company functions and how you run things in an IT department. My last internship was at a very small company, which had a totally different way of doing things. At a small company, you can just decide on the fly how you want to do things and implement stuff. That is not the case in a company of Cembrit’s size, were you have to consider things carefully as the implications can be quite big if you do something the wrong way.
Other than that I also got a chance to use some of the theory we have learned in school and see how it worked in practice. That lead to some eye-opening moments where the famous penny dropped for me and insight was gained.

All in all I have been pretty satisfied with my internship. I had a lot of various tasks and was involved in quite a few projects ranging in complexity and difficulty. Oh, and as a “thanks for your work” gift, I got a bag with various Cembrit merchandise and a pretty nice headset. Quite “funny” as I have been looking for a new headset for some time now, but I haven’t decided on one (or well, I have, but I don’t have the money for a Bowers & Wilkins P7 headset right now, unfortunately).

Now I just have to write 2 reports on my internship and then it’s time for my bachelor project. Regarding the later, I will write about a project I helped implement at Cembrit – more about that later.
