What to choose?
I have recently bought a bag dice. After all, what good is to play D&D if you can’t indulge yourself on dice?
The choice was between the Wiz Dice bag of dice and Chessex pound of dice bag.
According to a lot of reviews, the Chessex bag would contain a lot more “random” dice (such as dice you can’t use for roleplaying) and you would not be guaranteed to get complete sets (as in you could get a metric fuckton of d10’s and few d20’s). However you would most likely get some more exotic variants, instead of just some plain simple coloured ones. Wiz Dice on the other hand, would only contain complete sets, however the design might be on the more ordinary side.
As I only had a single set of dice, it was a quite easy choice. Wiz Dice it is, as I needed a certain baseline of dice. I figure I can always get more nice dice sets later on.
What did I get?
All in all I got 15 complete sets and 5 assorted dice. Out of the 15 sets, I got the following:
- 2 translucent sets
- 7 normal sets
- 6 more exotic sets (pearl design).

Look at them! Shiny!
The only “downside” was that I got nearly 3 identical sets. I got 3 green sets, where 2 of them are identical (pearly) and the last is just a normal set. It is pretty hard to tell them apart from a glance, but other than that I can’t complain.
Compared to my Chessex set, they are clearly different. Both in size (some of them are smaller / bigger than Chessex dice) and also in the build quality. I feel the Chessex dice is of higher quality. They got more sharp edges and bigger colour variations in their pearly design.
Overall
If you need a lot of dice and want to kickstart your dice collection, Wiz Dice is the way to go. If you want some more funky looking dice, look into Chessex. However for the price, it is hard to beat Wiz Dice for what you get.
