For some time I have been at a plateau at around 160 kilo. in deadlift. More than that and my grip fails. It simply slips out of my hand.
The other day I was doing my usual sets of 140 and had a really good feeling. So I thought “Why not give it a shot?” and loaded 30 more kilo on for 170 in total. It went surprisingly easy and I felt I had good control and proper form.
Instead of just thinking “yeah, new PR, that’s enough for today”, I went for 180 kilo. Bad idea.
After I got it of the ground I felt something give in my back and I immediately knew something was wrong. Seems like I have pulled / strained a muscle or something like that, as I got some minor back pain. That’s what you get for trying too hard. Oh well. Seems I just have to take it easy for some time and give my back some proper rest with a lot of stretches.
I’m still planning to join Club 500 (500 kilo total split between benchpress, squat and deadlift) and with my new PR I’m well on the way. Hopefully I’ll get it this year.
