Today a tweet started circulating, that shows just how hard Italy is hit by the Corona virus. Several military trucks are seen, transporting dead people out of the city of Bergamo. A city located in the center of the worst outbreak in Europe.
The crematories simply can’t keep up. They’re running 24/7 and even that isn’t enough. They simply don’t have the capacity and have to transport their dead to other towns. They can’t even give people a proper burial, robbing their loved ones of a final chance to say goodbye. That’s rough, but especially for the Italians, for whom burials are very important as it plays a big part in their culture.
And it is going to get even worse than this. It’s horrifying and just shows how much of a toll the virus takes.
I don’t even want to think about what death toll the Italians going to end up with, before the curve starts to flatten out. It’s going to be high. Unbearably high. And it is going to cost. Heavily. Most people don’t think about it, but the people on the front line are going to be hit hard. We’re talking about all the doctors, nurses and all other medical personnel. They’re fighting an up-hill battle and are seeing so much death right now. Triaging left and right. Deciding who is going to live and who is going to die. You can’t avoid getting affected by it.
A lot of people are going to end up with PTSD. For some, it’s going to be so terrible, that they see no other way out than taking their own lives. Imagine fighting so hard to saves peoples lives, that you end up taking your own afterwards, due to the choices you have made.
Terrible.
Just terrible.
